A Lifetime of Fitness Achievements

The following information is cited from the 2009 Rio Piedras Sports Hall of Fame ceremony where Yatska was inducted.

Yatska Aldarondo Antonini

Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and raised in Rio Piedras, PR, Yatska attended the University of PR Elementary School and the University High School. Yatska graduated in 1978 with great achievements, including winning the basketball championship of the PR High School Athletic Alliance (PRHSAA) for 4 consecutive years. She recognized the great efforts by her mentor, Ms. Frances Concepción, physical education teacher and coach of female sports for that institution.

Multi-Sport Recognition

Yatska started to show her achievements at an early age. In 1975 she was selected by the PR Federation of Volleyball as rookie of the year. She was also recognized "All American" by the PRHSAA and the PR Intercollegiate League in the disciplines of basketball, softball, track & field, and volleyball. She was a member of the PR Volleyball Team in the Central American and Caribbean Games in the Dominican Republic, 1974, Cuba, 1982 and the Dominican Republic, 1986. Similarly, she played with the national team in the NORCECA Volleyball Confederation Tournaments in the Dominican Republic, 1974 and Mexico, 1981. Moreover, she was a member of the PR Basketball Team in the Pan American Games in Mexico, 1975 and Puerto Rico, 1979.

Record-breaking Accomplishments

In 1983 she was selected "Varsity Setter" in basketball and softball by the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM). While playing for UPRM, she broke the record for most points in a basketball game with 70 points; a record that still prevails. It is worth mentioning that in 1 978 she received a scholarship from the University of Las Vegas, Nevada (UNLV), becoming the first Puerto Rican female athlete to receive a basketball scholarship to play i the continental USA. This led to participating in the WAIAW Regional 8 playoffs in Long Beach, CA as a member of the UNLV Lady Rebels team.
